Galstanyan, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church’s Tavush Diocese, announced that he will suspend his spiritual duties after being nominated the Tavush for the Motherland Movement’s candidate for prime minister in the 2026 parliamentary election.
Today’s rally followed a protest march Galstanyan began in the province of Tavush on May 4 that reached Yerevan today.
One woman, who told Hetq that she joined Nikol Pashinyan who led a 2018 country-wide march on Yerevan to depose then President Serzh Sargsyan, has now joined the protesters seeking to oust Pashinyan.
